Margot participated in our Jungle Fairytale T-Shirt Contest and the Envision Festival team was incredibly inspired by her entry! You will be able to see her original artwork printed on the official Envision 2020 merchandise with a completely unique design. Margot lives in Costa Rica and we celebrate her artwork together and continually thank our Costa Rican family for their creativity.
Margot has been driven by art and adventure her whole life. Once the time came to start considering a career path, she felt discouraged to pursue art considering how difficult it can be to make a living as an artist. After much back and forth, she concluded that the best thing to do was to look for a more traditional way of life. She began to study architecture and work corporate jobs to ensure a financially stable future, but after three years of this routine, she realized she was both unhappy and exhausted.
At this point, all Margot wanted to do was travel and start a new chapter of her life. She took off to Europe and stayed in Berlin where she met many amazing travelers and artists. These new friends inspired her because they were living for their passion and were brave enough to believe in themselves. Margot realized that she too could live this life of creative freedom. She began creating things such as clothing and jewelry but still wasn’t fulfilled. She continued her search until late 2016 when she decided to write what she wanted to manifest.
After writing the requirements for the lifestyle she wanted to have, Margot waited for a signal, an omen. A few months passed and Margot decided to attend Envision Festival. While she and her boyfriend were brewing some Yerba Mate at their campsite, a beautiful lady showed up, tattooed from head to toe. They began talking and she thought to herself “Wow! This woman is amazing, I want to be like her one day.” It turned out that this woman was both a tattoo artist and an incredible human being. This woman was the omen, messenger, and initiator Margot had been waiting for.
Tattoo art was something Margot had an interest in previous to this experience, she even had an opportunity to learn and practice it years before. After spending time with this inspiring woman at Envision, Margot felt such a strong connection that she asked her to create her first tattoo.
“It was a beautiful experience,” Margot shared. “She tattooed me in my house weeks after the festival. I gave her total creative freedom and asked her to tattoo what she felt I needed…and she did. She created a special design with loads of intention,” Margot continued.
While getting tattooed, Margot experienced a meditation state that she had never achieved before. “It was healing in a lot of ways… I released blockages and understood that [tattoo art] was really something I wanted to do myself.”
After this life-changing realization, Margot’s new career path began. She feels that is has been very challenging to not only learn the skills of tattoo art but to heal and grow emotionally and spiritually through the craft. “I have so much to learn but I have never loved anything as much as I love tattooing. I feel so blessed, thankful, and honored when someone chooses me to create a mark on them.”
When asked about how she came up with her design for the contest, Margot shared that nature is her biggest inspiration. She captured the Jungle Fairytale theme by imagining all the animals that live in the tropics and then choosing which ones she wanted to feature (which was extremely difficult she mentioned since there is extensive biodiversity). At the end of the day, Margot said, “I wanted to create something of beauty, something that showed the magical nature of Envision and how connected everything is.”
Margot is beyond excited to return to Envision this year. She loves the workshops and knowledge that is shared, the connection between people, art, and music, the effort and energy that goes into creating the Envision community, and the overall attitude of openness. She is extremely honored and thankful to have been chosen as the Envision Festival Artist Collective Artist of the Year and she hopes to meet many of you this year at the magical adventure of Envision Festival.
