Since the beginning, Envision Festival has been carefully curated to be a catalyst for personal development and empowerment. In 2017, there will be more ways than ever for attendees to harness their spirituality and to connect with the sacred. From fire circles to sacred temples, various spaces will cater to a diverse array of experiences. We caught up with Sarah Wu, Envision Co-founder and Educational Curator, to learn what to expect from the sacred spaces at Envision 2017. Here’s what she had to say!
The Temple of the Earth, or Templo de la Tierra in spanish, is a space open to all participants to come and connect with themselves and each other. This temple is an area of contemplation and deep grounded connection with Mother Earth. There are no specific events or programming occurring at the Temple of Earth, but make sure to stop on by and you may just be surprised by what you experience!

Returning in 2017 is the Temple of the Moon (also referred to as the Red Tent), a space specifically for all who identify as womb’yn. “We write [womb’yn] this way to celebrate the pure essence of femininity, apart from the masculine aspect of the divine,” says Sarah Wu, the curator of Sacred Spaces at Envision. The Red Tent stems from a pre-Judeo-Christian time, when womb’yn celebrated the the divine feminine energy of the moon, blood, rites of passage, motherhood, and transition into the Crone and death. The Red Tent Temple Movement can be found around the world as a way to revitalize and reclaim the feminine. In this temple there will be workshops about sacred sexuality, witchcraft, shamanism, moon lore, and uterine health.
For the first year ever, we are also offering a Temple of the Sun. In contrast to the Temple of the Moon, the Temple of the Sun will be a space for self-identified men to gather. “Last year when we first offered the Red Tent, I noticed the men hovering around, probably because of all the beautiful women, but also, because men too are seeking divine connection and a celebration of who they are,” says Sarah Wu. The Temple of the Sun offers a space for men to wake up their divine essence, or the divine masculine (and not in the form of the big man in the sky who brings down judgement). For the past many thousands of years, the masculine has been out of balance, patriarchal, misogynistic, and violent. While womb’yn are finally coming into their power, men also need to help bring balance into the world. Programming in this temple will focus on topics such as male archetypes, gender balancing, forgiveness, acceptance and self love.

At the heart of Envision is the Sacred Fire, which also happens to be outside of the Temple of the Earth. There will be a ritual to light the fire at sunset on the opening Thursday of Envision. The coals will remain burning throughout the festival and will be re-ignited each sunset. Sarah Wu describes the importance Fire as “the primal element of regeneration, destruction and transformation, beating in our hearts and through our blood, warms us to our potential as human beings while also connects us to our basic instincts”. The ceremonies at the Sacred Fire will range from workshops on sacred medicinal plants, the nature of duality, energetic group cleanses, spiritual cord cutting, creative force, and our primal origins. All of the Sacred Fire programming is offered by Costa Ricans, most of which will be in Spanish and have English translation. The language of the sacred is universal, so all are welcome to participate.
Sacred space is fundamental to the deeply mysterious power that participants unlock at Envision. Make sure to check out the sacred spaces this year, and you will thank us later. We can’t wait to hold space for pura vida with you at Envision 2017!
