General Site Safety: Water Safety, Medical, Security, Zendo + Sober Camping
While Envision is a safe space for all visitors, the well being of all our guests is of the utmost importance to our staff and safety crews. We want to ensure that guests are well aware of the services that are provided for their overall safety and comfort throughout the weekend. When traveling to other countries it is important to be aware, respectful, and apprehensive of your surroundings. The 2019 Envision Staff is there to be of assistance and guidance throughout all different departments of site security. Be sure to say “Hi!” and applaud them for their efforts of keeping totality of guest safety.
The Envision Safety Team is led by Arturo Cruz, Safety Director, who coordinates all the lifeguards, Costa Rican security, medical, safety, and harm-reduction teams on site. The responsibility of these different departments is to ensure ease and direct assistance for Envision attendees. With the assistance of around 150 local Costa Rican security guards, Costa Ballena Lifeguards, Zendo, and the skilled, diverse medical staff, the Envision 2019 safety precautions and regulations are exquisitely manufactured for protection and overall well being of Envision guests.
Not only is there the Costa Rican medical team on site, but the main security source for Envision has been in the business for over 9 years, covering over 25 festivals a year. These professionals have a diverse range of skills from combat veterans and military medical services and emergency first-responders, to registered nurses, EMTs and wildlife medical professionals.
“The Envision staff is medically and safety conscious, whose professionalism ranges from numerous skill sets. We are not looking for the bad guy. We are there to preemptively prepare and support Envision attendees to have the best weekend possible.” Cruz said.
The Costa Ballena Lifeguards are a local lifeguard association that is partnering with Envision Festival. “I am very pleased to announce this new partnership”, says Chamber of Commerce & Tourism president, Perry Gladstone. “In contracting the Costa Ballena Lifeguards for the whole month of February, Envision Festival is taking a safety-first approach that respects the needs of our guests, businesses, and community.”
The gates to the beaches at Envision close at sunset and reopen in the AM for all guests to catch their morning swim! The Costa Ballena Lifeguards are a nonprofit association that is on the lookout for tropical rip currents and assuring the guests best safety.

The overall safety hub is located right between the campground and the Sol Stage. At this location you can find the safety headquarters, medical, and Zendo right in a line. All these services are located right by the showers in a central location to fulfill attendees needs 24/7 throughout the weekend.
Zendo is a psychedelic harm reduction community that is using compassionate care and transformational methods as a service to the festival community. Zendo’s ideals are to reduce the number of psychiatric hospitalizations and arrests, creating a learning and feedback based environment for volunteers as well as help demonstrate a safe, productive space for psychedelic experiences.
For the first year at Envision Festival along with a dedicated sober camping space, there will be Sober Tent, that will host daily, bilingual meetings that are for attendees looking to pursue, live or support a sober lifestyle. This tent and dedicated campground will help to build people together with like-mindedness.
Cruz gave some general safety advice for people traveling to the Envision site, “Like when visiting any country, you should never bring your valuable with you and only travel with what you need. Avoid traveling alone when you can and use the buddy system. Use official taxis and businesses that are supporting the community and licensed through Costa Rica.Be aware of the culture and be respectful of the culture.”
Tips From Our Staff
IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND EXPECTATIONS
-Pack out what you pack in! Bring bags to sort trash at your campsite and leave your area cleaner than you found it – this goes for build sites too! Leave any unnecessary packaging at home. Unwrap and repack into more ecologically friendly containers! Do your part!
-Make sure to get cash before coming to site. There will be an ATM on site, but to ensure you have the money you need for the weekend, come prepared with cash at hand!
-Swim at your own risk. As always, please be respectful of the natural environment. The ocean current can be extremely strong at times, so please be conscious when swimming. Swim with a buddy and do not go beyond the break if you don’t know how to get back in. If you are taken out by a riptide, stay relaxed and swim diagonal to the shore. Also, there are other things in the ocean besides you – be mindful of stingrays and shuffle your feet whenever walking in the water.
-Be prepared for rain! This is the jungle, anything can happen. Bring an extra tarp and large bags that you can fit your luggage in if need be.
-There is NO WiFi on-site. Please plan accordingly. If you must stay in touch with home, be sure to get a local SIM card for your phone.
-Unlock your phone BEFORE arriving in Costa Rica. Kolbi cards are easiest to get. You can purchase a local SIM card at the airport in the baggage claim area. Other companies are Claro & Movistar.
