A Reflection of 2019 Waste Management with our Eco-Hub Leader
Located right at the main entrance of Envision reigns the powerful and fearless Eco-Hub that raises the bar of our sustainability efforts at Envision Festival. Our Eco-Crew completely dominated our 2019 event, along with the help of our conscious and supportive attendees, following the 4 step-by-step Eco-Ethos, leading to one of our cleanest years yet.

As we are all anticipating the 2019 Sustainability Report to continue to build new and innovative ways to manage the waste at Envision Festival, we know that we have the team, capability and mindset to continue to be one of the smallest waste producing global gatherings around.
Captain Planet, our fearless waste warrior, talked about the impact of the 2019 event. “Envision 2019 was by far the smoothest event regarding waste management that we have worked in the last decade of our career. Attendees were conscious of their materials. Staff were leading by example and gave Eco-Crew much needed support. Artists were making announcements to clean up and respect the land,” he said.
Pre-event, numerous teams and operations crew spread the word to our attendees about the moral and physical responsibility they have to manage their waste on the grounds. We ask attendees to bring reusable materials including utensils, as well as rechargeable equipment. We can only hope to further educate attendees to know that recycling, compost, and even landfill are done differently all over the world and in Costa Rica it’s not easy to handle certain types of material. We are forever grateful to have an entire Eco-Crew for support of ours and our attendee’s personal waste management journey.
“We can only hope it gets better from here with everyone taking this knowledge to the rest of the world and showing people how it ought to be. We still had waste left behind, we still produced enough waste to reconsider how we are using resources and consuming them,” Captain Planet said.
Just as waste management is a team project, so is coming together to learn and educate ourselves on future solutions. Envision Festival is prominent and dependable for all your sustainability efforts and will continue to serve the public in educating and physically showing the correct actions to best manage waste.
Captain Planet touched on different elements of our Eco-Initiatives, “ This year, we restricted compostable plastics which are a problem not a solution. And as well, we are making headway with the municipalities about the beach which is the major issue due to lack of understanding and accountability by the beach vendors. We hope to assist the municipality with creating a solution to this issue that’s causing a lot of environmental degradation and pollution. Stay tuned for the Sustainability Report and look forward to seeing the 2019 Ecovision Map that shows how well you and your envision family did with helping keep envision clean.”

A MESSAGE FROM THE ECO-HUB:
The Eco hub is the main transfer station on site for all materials at the event. The Eco Crew is here to assist everyone with their post-consumer by-products and sort them accordingly by type. The Steps banner shows how you can sort your materials before arriving at the Eco Hub to make the process smooth, easy, and fun. We love what we do. We are passionate, and care for the land which provides for us. Help us provide an equally sustainable environment for the planet to keep sheltering us with all that we need to thrive. The Eco Ethos banner is on your way into the box office. Please take the time to read it and take a photo for reference. We only have one home. It is your duty to collect your materials. Sort them by type. Bring them to the Eco-Hub and ask the Eco Crew if you need any assistance. If you have any questions, please ask us. There is no wrong question and don’t feel bad if you need to ask more than once. It can be a complicated process trying to figure out what goes where with all the products in the world. It’s easy to find us too, we are usually the ones sifting through the compost bins or half-way in a barrel pulling out an item in the wrong bin. You can always find us at the Eco-Hub and on your way please take a look at the ground and bring us anything you might find that doesn’t belong there. We call this MOOP: Matter Out Of Place. We love picking up MOOP, but we enjoy even more not having to work hard but rather dance harder next to all you amazing people. Thank you!
