Each year our Eco-Crew presents numerous multimedia efforts to best educate and assist Envision attendees of our sustainability efforts. Pre-event reminders and general education is critical to ensuring our home for the weekend stays hygienic and greener than ever.
Learn the four Envision Eco-Hub steps that guide everyone on sorting out their materials. These steps follow in line with our Eco-Ethos, which are the regulations we uphold at Envision, from participants to artists to staff. These ideals keep our Earth healthy and clean while allowing us to enjoy the rest of our time in this beautiful location.
Our Eco-Ethos ask attendees to bring reusable materials, pick up out-of-place materials, and have an overall respect for the jungle paradise that we get to flourish on all weekend. Our sustainability report covers all aspects of our festival and how we make it as environmentally sustainable as possible. There are tips, knowledge and general intuition to be learned throughout different areas of what makes up Envision Festival.
Directly from the Envision 2018 Sustainability Report:
We ask that everyone thinks about what they are bringing to this event. To understand that recycling, compost, even landfill are done differently all over the world and in Costa Rica it’s not easy to handle certain types of materials. Please make sure that you bring reusable materials like a cup, utensils, plate or bowl, and a refillable water bottle. Bring rechargeable equipment like lamps, headlamps, lighters, batteries, etc. Make sure if you are buying something new that you take off all the packaging like plastic wrap or cardboard and recycle or dispose of those materials at home before you come to site. You are probably already paying for this service at home and it will be easier to do it there than here in Costa Rica.

Stage Clean Up
The stages are the most used and accessed areas in a music festival…go figure. So it’s very important that we pay attention to keeping the dance floors clean and clear of materials. Envision has stations near each of the stages so that participants can dispose of their materials properly while making sure they can dance and enjoy the music. Before, during or after a set, remember to pick up one of two items on the floor. By doing so, with everyone efforts, we can keep the earth clean and rage all the more harder knowing we are doing so with a conscious mind.
The campgrounds are a very important part of Envision Ethos. We don’t supply nor service these areas with stations or pick ups. We empower you as participants to follow along with the Eco Ethos and bring all your pre-sorted materials to the Eco Hub to dispose of properly. Please make sure that you bring your own bags for this process and pick up any MOOP (Matter Out Of Place) on the ground you may see whenever you are walking around.
The most beautiful part of Envision and the most sacred. We together can make sure this amazing place stays clean from any waste or plastic. There are no stations on the beach and the closest is the Beach Portal Station next to Lapa Stage. Please remember to dispose of any materials before you go to the beach and bring back anything left behind so it doesn’t get washed out to sea. Please also educate your family around you and let them know if they are doing something against the Ethos. Do so in a respectful manner and lead by example.
Since staff are on site the longest, it is our responsibility to make sure our living spaces and work sites as well as the event site are kept clean for the participants as well as ourselves. We are the examples they look to and see. Show them how to act and be conscious. Remember you can always ask questions if you don’t know. Come stop by the Eco Hub and ask away, we love what we do and enjoy talking with our Envision Family. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you. Remember to have your Dept. Leads talk to our Managers about any needs ahead of time so that we may assist your team with build materials, questions, and/or concerns. If you think you will need assistance with disposing of materials, having that set up early is always helpful as we get busy during event and strike.
You are the most influential people at the event. You are the main attraction and reason why most participants and staff come to Envision. This also means that you can help empower and consciously steer your family in a beautiful direction of change. Remember that you can always give an Eco Crew tip shout out before, during, or after a set. A great time is right before you play your last song. Let the crowd know they can pick up one or two items and bring them to the nearest station after your set is done. If you are closing, we encourage you to play a clean up song. Ask everyone to dance while picking up everything off the ground and bring to Eco Crew members near the stage with waiting bags or to stations so that in the morning the dance floor is beautiful, ready, and waiting for another amazing day and night of music and fun. Send in short films of yourselves talking about a single Eco Crew tip. We use these to promote Envision, the Eco Ethos, and fans are very responsive to their favorite artists. Thank you for coming and being a part of this.
As the family of Envision and the largest most empowered group on site, we ask that you all work together and encourage one another to follow the Eco Ethos and be conscious of your actions. Watch out for each other on the beach. Make sure you take care of your bodies while enjoying the sun and festivities. Maintain a healthy diet and drink water, lots of water. Be aware that only as one can we create what Envision means to us all. Only together can we make sure this beautiful Earth is clean for us, for our children, and all those that come after us. Be the change the world needs to see. Most importantly, remember that once you leave Envision the challenge really starts. Bring these beautiful amazing conscious ideals to the world and share them with your friends, family, everyone! Envision isn’t just a weekend music festival, it’s a place to enlighten your mind, body, and soul so that when you go out into the darkness of the world you are the light that shines the way for others around you. Thank you, we love you!

Coconuts are amazing in the hot sun and delicious to fight the heat. They are also a major health factor due to the fact that piles of cut coconuts are a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Especially when people only drink the liquid and dont cut open the shell and eat the flesh. We have to be very careful how we deal with the hundreds of coconuts that end up being used during the event. If not dealt with properly these piles can be breeding grounds for dengue fever. Make sure that after finishing your drink that you return to ask for your coconut to be cut so you can also enjoy the nutritious flesh inside which is great for keeping you healthy during a weekend of festivities.
A Message From The Eco-Hub:
The Eco hub is the main transfer station on site for all materials at the event. The Eco Crew is here to assist everyone with their post-consumer by-products and sort them accordingly by type. The Steps banner shows how you can sort your materials before arriving at the Eco Hub to make the process smooth, easy, and fun. We love what we do. We are passionate, and care for the land which provides for us. Help us provide an equally sustainable environment for the planet to keep sheltering us with all that we need to thrive. The Eco Ethos banner is on your way into the box office. Please take the time to read it and take a photo for reference. We only have one home. It is your duty to collect your materials. Sort them by type. Bring them to the Eco-Hub and ask the Eco Crew if you need any assistance. If you have any questions, please ask us. There is no wrong question and don’t feel bad if you need to ask more than once. It can be a complicated process trying to figure out what goes where with all the products in the world. It’s easy to find us too, we are usually the ones sifting through the compost bins or half-way in a barrel pulling out an item in the wrong bin. You can always find us at the Eco-Hub and on your way please take a look at the ground and bring us anything you might find that doesn’t belong there. We call this MOOP: Matter Out Of Place. We love picking up MOOP, but we enjoy even more not having to work hard but rather dance harder next to all you amazing people. Thank you!
