Remember you need a valid passport with a minimum of six months before expiration and proof of return plane or bus ticket out of the country to travel into Costa Rica. You also should have a destination address for the customs form at the airport in San Jose. Depending on your nationality you may need a visa.
Walking or biking are the most eco-friendly options, but not convenient for most people. SJO airport in Alajuela is the closest international airport to the venue at about 3 hours drive. LIR airport in Liberia is about 6 hours drive, but sometimes has very good fares.
Start the adventure as soon as you step off the plane by traveling straight to the Envision venue with other festival goers! We’ll pick you up at the airport and drop you off at the front entrance. We are happy to offer shuttle service this year starting Saturday, February 23rd! Please note that pre-festival shuttles (Saturday-Tuesday) drop off attendees in Dominical and do not continue on to the venue.
*Important* Only our shuttles are allowed into Envision. Fake companies typically drop you off on the side of the narrow 2-lane highway to hike along the road with your bags to get in.
Please note that by law, Costa Rica requires renters to purchase additional liability insurance that nearly all online rental sites will not tell you about until you arrive to pickup your car at the counter. This insurance is often 2-3x the price of the rental listed online.
Please note that although 4 wheel drive is not needed to get to the festival venue, it is needed for many rental houses and hotels, and we highly recommend 4 wheel drive and FULL insurance coverage if you plan to explore the Southern Zone.
From San José head west to Jaco and then south along the coast to Uvita. We strongly recommend renting a GPS with your vehicle. Very few Costa Rican roads have names and it’s very easy to get lost. Smartphone Apps WAZE or Google Maps are also a good resources if you plan on having a 3g phone while you’re here. From the airport search from Juan Santamaria Airport Alajuela to Uvita, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Envision will be clearly marked from the road about 2km north of Uvita. Map below.
If you would prefer a domestic flight from SJO closer to the venue, you can choose to fly within Costa Rica on one of the domestic airlines, SANSA or Nature Air. You will take a breathtaking twenty minute flight westward to the city of Quepos. Quepos is a 30-40 minute drive to the festival. You can arrange a private shuttle or find a taxi from there.
You may also take a TRACOPA bus from San José to Paso Canoas and get off in Uvita, where they stop for a few minutes. This ride takes 4 hours. TRACOPA buses stopping in Uvita leave San Jose at 7:30 am, 10:15 am, 11 am, 12 noon, and 4:30 pm. Costs around $15.
