Since the festival began a decade ago, we’ve planted and donated over 45,000 trees in Costa Rica to assist in the regeneration of the jungle and ecosystem that is home to hundreds of animal species, and of course, to plant some love back into the Earth!
Envision Festival partner Community Carbon Trees Founder and President Jennifer Smith states,
“If we are truly to create lasting solutions to the environmental problems facing the planet, we have to do MORE than plant trees for global warming. . . . Ideally, we also have to find ways to preserve local communities and cultures, while immediately rebuilding deforested soils, wildlife corridors and protecting watersheds and old-growth forests. This work is especially important in countries like Costa Rica where there still exist intact stretches of the primary jungle along the coast which, in turn, influence the oceans and marine life, together so vital to the overall stability of our global climate.”
Environmental and social impact projects are a huge part of what we do at Envision Festival and we plan on keeping it that way. In addition to our tree planting initiatives, we also founded the Casa Envision Community Center, a local youth community center, cleared more than 335 kilos of trash from our annual beach cleanup, funded a local lifeguard program, a $17,000 water infrastructure program in Uvita, repairs to a local school’s roof, and raised $6,000 to fund a local crime prevention program.
But we’re not just celebrating the New Year— Envision Festival is proud to announce that we’re the recipient of A Greener Festival Awards 2019 “Commended Award”!
From the Greener Festival Awards Team:
“Envision Festival “Commended Award” signifies a well-managed, environmentally aware festival going beyond expectation to make positive change. Envision Festival has demonstrated excellent work to lessen the impact of the event on the environment, raise social justice, and communicate with the audience. The team has also pushed boundaries to innovate and find unique solutions, and show a clear determination to continue to break ground going forward. The whole AGF team is very proud of the achievements of our winners and we thank you wholeheartedly for your efforts and actions to make the event industry greener, and for your participation in The Greener Festival Awards.”

We’re excited to use valuable data and statistics to help us expand our sustainability initiatives as we continue to grow. We caught up with Envision Festival’s Sustainability Manager, Karla Struhal, and discussed Envision Festival 2020 Sustainability Goals.
Karla shares with us her thoughts, “For 2020, our biggest goal is to try to reduce as much possible waste on-site. As a Leave No Trace event, we want to educate participants about reducing their use of single-use plastics including cups, bags, and utensils while on-site and show them how doing so will create a lasting impact on the grounds. We want to begin educating early this year and getting people in the groove of bringing reusable or recyclable materials to the event! The other thing we want to target is the vendors that are placed right outside the venue, who produce a lot of waste. We want to have them switch to more sustainable or compostable options because a lot of that waste is finding its way into the festival grounds. We are always looking for ways to deal with that and reduce our waste and impact.”
The bar is being continuously pushed through each department, sector, and partnership to reach the top-level environmental standards at this year’s Envision Festival. Taking sustainability to the next level, Envision Festival is teaming up with Cotton Heritage and Kornit to provide eco friendly branded, printed t-shirts.
As a leader in the apparel and fashion industry, Kornit considers sustainability to be a core company value and invests great effort and resources in minimizing the company’s environmental footprint, using nearly zero water-waste and a low carbon footprint throughout its full manufacturing process.
Our teams will continue to push the bar in sustainability and environmental practices and encourage our fans and attendees to follow our standard. There has never been a more important time in history to make positive contributions to the environment and our global community and we are so grateful to be on this mission with our community and YOU! We’ll see you in the Jungle 🏝🌺
