This year at Envision, the lineup is packed with the best moments of your life. One of the most anticipated acts this year is the stylish and hard-hitting CloZee. While hard at work in the studio fine tuning her upcoming new Harmony Remix Album, CloZee took some time to speak with us to unpack the excitement she has around performing at Envision for the third time; the sensation of collaborating with another DJ live; her much-anticipated album release. We even talked about getting out of a funk. In this exclusive one-on-one interview get to know her better and join us to see her perform on the Luna Stage at Envision 2018.
This is going to be your 3rd year performing at Envision, is that right? What is it about this festival that has you coming back? How do you prepare to play a set in the jungle vs another setting, like the desert or a forest?
Yes, 3rd Year in a row! I’m so honored and excited. Each time is a crazy experience so whenever Envision wants me back, I’m here. Envision has such an incredible and unique atmosphere: Jungle, top-notch stage designs and sound, beach parties, trippy visuals, eclectic lineup of different arts, and all of that affects me when I’m working on my set and tracklist.

Last year, you had your own set, along with performing as CloZinger. Both of these performances were so dynamic and so different from each other. The new remixes coming out also demonstrate a penchant for performing and mixing with other artists. What do you like about performing as a collaboration, and what do you look for in artists you choose to collaborate with?
It’s always way more fun to share music with people.
The CloZinger set last year at Envision was unique, as it was the first time Scarfinger and I played overseas together.
Right before starting our set, I was very stressed (way more than for my solo set), because I could feel that Scarfinger was pretty anxious. He and I are very connected, I feel all his emotions, which is also an amazing thing because whenever we started playing the first track, I felt he was beyond happy. The set was pure happiness and sharing that with him was even more memorable.
I’m looking for those kinds of moments and connection whenever I’m collaborating with people.
Your rise as an artist and influencer has you sharing stages with many artists you have named as major inspirations. Just this past year, you’ve sold out major shows, embarked on your 5th US tour, and released yet another incredible EP perfectly titled Harmony. For the artists inspired by your journey, what do you attribute to getting you to this level?
I’m happy to realize that the phrase “Hard work pays off” applies here! I definitely worked very hard (and still do). I’ve started my career by doing many things ‘for free’, ‘for the exposure’, and seeing the progress now is crazy. It’s way more than what I would have ever imagined a few years ago.
I also have an amazing team (agents, managers) who works as hard to take the project to the next step. I’m so looking forward to the future.
The new Harmony Remix Album is about to come out. What about it are you most excited to share?
The great spectrum of artists and styles of the remixes. It includes some of my favorite artists of the moment: Axel Thesleff, Tor, Bluetech, Sidecar Tommy (from Beats Antique), Giyo, David Starfire, Cloudchord, Megan Hamilton, P A T H, LeSage, VAGO, Comisar. It comes out on Gravitas Recordings on Jan 30th. http://music.gravitasrecordings.com/album/harmony-remixes

A spiritual element is at the forefront of your music. How has creating music helped you evolve in your life? What have the challenges of being an artist taught you about humans?
Creating Music and make a living out of it is a consecration for me. Now I know exactly in which direction I need to go in life to be happy. The first years as a musician have been like a therapy too, being on stage gave me self-confidence and help me to relax more in stressful situations in general. Even if the music industry is very challenging and can be hard sometimes, waking up each morning to do something creative in order to make people dancing is the most amazing feeling.
It seems like a lot of your projects are inspired by visual art, and when you perform you incorporate a lot of live performances such as dancers, creating a very immersive world. In 2017, you performed with a troupe of fire dancers. Without giving too much away of this year’s performance, what do you want to do more of on tour this year? What aspects of the show do you want to improve?
Again this year at Envision, I’m inviting Pyrodanza (fire troupe from Costa Rica) and Haza (Dancer from France) to perform coordinated choreographies to my set. Compared to last year, they will know exactly what I’ll play in advance. And I have, of course, a LOT of new music to play from my new Album (release in October 2018).

Do you ever get into a mental space where you find it hard to create? If so, where do you look to get back into your zone?
Whenever I stay in the studio too much, for too many days in a row, I feel saturated. I need to go out, see people, spend time with family and lover, see some nature or do something to feed myself and inspire me again.
