When he moved to Costa Rica at the young age of 10 years old even those who knew Forest Harris could have never expected it to be such a profound impact in his life. He took on the spanish translation of his name, “Bosque” and after 11 years he’s earned the handle by spending more of his life in Costa Rica than in the United States. Moving here changed his outlook toward the environment, his diet, and his love for other cultures but what fewer people know is that for him going to festivals launched him and his musical preferences towards broader horizons. As the first artist performing music this year at Envision Festival, Bosque represents an evolution of tastes as much as a sonic blast-off for what may be the best experience of your life.
We caught up with him to hear a bit about his excitement for the festival as much as what he has in store for us at the event. Here’s what he had to say!
There are a number of events in Costa Rica and Latin America to choose from but Bosque accredits Envision as the well of inspiration that he always returns to. As an emerging name on the global scene and a staple around Costa Rica we wanted to know why he chose Envision as the place to showcase his art. “Envision has a small town vibe.” He said. “They don’t just packup and leave after the show. I feel like I really didn’t know anything about music and community until Envision came around. Those people stuck around they started making changes around here. I got to meet a lot of really amazing people because of the festival and I’ve lived in this area, so I’ve been able to see the change. It’s kinda like this vortex of like-minded people that show up with this purpose.”
The impact Envision had on him early on set Bosque on a path of perpetual musical discovery.
“Experiencing different kinds of music and seeing Envision build since the first year, I started seeing the music people were bringing here and that really influenced my style.” Says Harris. “It’s a small town but we have a lot of big artists that come through.” Hoping to be one of those big artists himself, Bosque already has aspirations of playing all over the world but no matter where he goes he wants to bring a taste of his Costa Rican home. But first, he’s planning to bring something special to his breakthrough performance on the Luna Stage. Leveraging his well-known penchant for keeping people on their toes we had to ask what he has in store for his big kickoff at Envision Festival.
“I don’t want it to be expected.” He said with glimmer in his eye. “I want to take you on a weird ride through my mind.”
