Sarah had her first exposure to yoga about 4 years ago, living in Boulder, CO. Right away, she appreciated the physical challenge and momentary peace that it brought to her days. As her practice deepened, she discovered that vigorous yoga practice is her way of healing. Some days, pushing herself to the point of no limit on the mat, is a crucial means to her survival. Sarah believes that yoga asana is accessible for anybody who is open minded and has the drive to work at it. We are all capable of the poses in yoga asana, if we are properly prepared for them. Sometimes the road blocks are physical and sometimes they are mental/emotional – but when we experience consistent failure in reaching any goal – it all comes down to building blocks. How can we break down the desired pose, into its many building blocks? If we can highlight pieces that we aren’t ready for, we can begin to work on them in other ways. There is no limit, yoga is a romantic opportunity to get to know ourselves limitlessly.
Handstands, arm balances, and transitioning with effortless ease are a byproduct of the mastery of building blocks. Often times, when we fail in execution of asana, we have no idea why. These classes can help shift your mindset from hard labeling things that you “can’t do”, to dissecting a skill into its building blocks, so that you can work on the pieces that you aren’t yet prepared for. Wrist mobility, hand strength, scapular control, pelvic tilt, shoulder mobility, etc. can all be learned in accessible ways with no inverting necessary. Once we have built up an excess of strength around the necessary building blocks to perform asana, all asana is easy. Sometimes the difference between executing an advanced pose, and deeming ourselves failures, is a micro-movement – a gaze shift, a hand placement, a turn of the foot. These workshop oriented vinyasa classes will highlight those differences and help you identify them in practice moving forward, giving you the opportunity to gain knowledge and grow in strength and intelligence, every time you practice. The key is leaving your ego at the home and showing up with a strong, curious, and open heart.
