What is the main message about Lapa Stage you want to communicate?
Josh: Lapa Stage is is an adult playground. It’s the stage that connects the health, wellness, and educational aspects of Envision Festival, with the live music and dance party aspects of Envision. This is where we pivot from all of the excitement of the days activities and prepare to welcome the evening adventure.
There’s always so much laughter going on here. So many people connecting without even speaking. Using the language of love and the power of the sun to craft a truly beautiful experience. The message from this stage is to just have fun with yourself. Let loose and shake it out. Kick up some dirt and let your body explore the jungle surroundings, while the beats creep into your soul. Lapa Stage wants you to get weird.
What is the overall Vibe of Lapa Stage?
Josh: Imagine walking back from a few hours at the beach practicing acro yoga, swimming in the Pacific Ocean, connecting with community or shopping in The Village, attending a workshop about herbal medicine or permaculture. You hear the subtle beats creep into your ears as the wind dances within the jungle. The trees are whispering. Monkeys are howling. Night Time is approaching, and Envision is in full swing. The surrounding atmosphere greatly amplifies the wild beats vibrating within, notably from DJ Tennis, Behrouz, Audiofly, & Chaim.
Lapa Stage can get really funky and there’s a unique buzz of energy here. Some of my most enjoyable moments of Envision have been at this stage, both from the dance floor and from the turntables looking out. Kicking off the party with a Bushman set is such a special experience for me.
Why do you love Lapa Stage so much?
Josh: The accessibility. It’s not genre specific and it’s a great place for headliners to feature a second or experimental set they wouldn’t normally get to play at another stage. I get to see some of my best friends expand on their talents and play a part in telling the Envision story in their own way. It provides the opportunity for them to inhale Envision Festival into their veins and the fans always benefit from that tenfold. Watching this process and journey occur in so many varieties is awesome. It’s bliss, and I love that feeling from Lapa.
How does Lapa differ from the other stages?
Josh: This is our only daytime stage so it can attract a variety of different festival goers for a badass daytime dance party. It’s good fun with playful music. People are always happy to walk by and stop for a dance session on their way to and from the beach and all other day activities. Whether they were shopping, eating, practicing self care, or partaking workshops; Lapa Stage provides the release they need. The transition in and out. To and from.
With Lapa Stage, we want to make sure the creativity and depth of musical inspiration is represented. It is absolutely not run of the mill party house. It’s Deep and interesting, even for people who don’t typically operate that way.
What would you tell someone who’s never been to Envision Festival?
Josh: Envision is curated by music lovers for music lovers to experience something new they have never experienced before. Nothing ordinary. Nothing average. We’re always looking for something that brings an audience together, opens hearts and minds, and deeply inspires individual expression in the community through the unique viewpoints demonstrated on our stages. No matter who you are, you WILL find a new favorite artist and be blown away by a stage design you’ve never experienced before.
We also happen to have one of the most idyllic and paradisal venues in the world. And although we’re known for our surfable beach-front-meets-jungle venue, we’re more than our surroundings. We’re a yoga and wellness festival that happens to provide a full scale music festival. We’re a music festival that also boasts a full scale yoga and wellness festival. We have a taste for everyone, and because we’re in Central America, our Latin American influence really sets us apart. We’re marrying the North and South Americas in a variety of aspects. Just as Central America is the Isthmus of the Americas, Envision Festival is the Isthmus of musical genres. Fans will be engulfed in a Latin tropical fusion that is felt in every corner of the festival.
One last question. Why Envision? What made you bring this to life?
Josh: I had been living in Costa Rica for five or six years by the time I decided to pursue this, and it was something that did not exist here and I wanted to pioneer that dream. To experience it in such a unique and beautiful place. AND in a place that speaks the same message that the festival speaks. I wanted to deliver the same message through a festival that being barefoot in the jungle alone will speak.
This Festival is a representation of the life I’ve chosen to live, and that my Envision family has chosen to live, in Costa Rica. A new paradigm that we’ve all chosen to pursue. Creativity, inspiration, health, community, and a real representation of a life we can all live. I want people to walk away inspired by every aspect of the festival from yoga to ecobuilding to music to landscape and we want it all to represent a lifestyle we believe in and that the world can benefit from.
I got really excited by the idea of curating my own event. My own feeling. I’ve been to festivals my entire life and constantly inspired by it all. But I wanted to do it my way. To me, it was imperative to curate my own experience 100%. From the venue, to the music, to the stage, lighting, and sound design. They all speak the same message that every other part of the festival speaks. Because this was produced by me and my team with the help of so many other members of our family. But they all understand the intention; That even if someone only attends for music and only ever goes to see the sets, they will still get the message of Envision overall. That if people only come for the yoga, or the workshops, or the beaches. You find it in everything. It’s not just about the party! It’s so much more than that. And it is all intertwined with the same message and principles as the rest of the festival. Our 8 pillars are truly felt in everything we do.
